My journey into fitness was an unlikely one.

Had you met me while I was in school and told me that soon I would be living in a city (!) and working at a gym (!!!) I probably would have called you crazy, but I'm pretty happy with the way things have worked out.

I've always enjoyed exploring the outdoors, and when I was in high school instead of sports teams I joined the 'Out Trip' club, which ran canoeing and hiking expeditions. After graduating college as a Naturalist I worked in Killarney, Ontario for several years with my husband-to-be, Graeme. While we loved guiding canoe, kayak, and hiking trips, the seasonal nature of the work meant we were often moving around, and we ended up here in Waterloo where Graeme went back to school.

That spring I ran into Jill Baxter, who taught courses in my college program and offered me a summer position as a counselor for her 'Active Challenge' camp. This fantastic program is for young girls struggling with weight and body image issues, and alongside the traditional summer camp activities Jill included daily workouts with a personal trainer and meal planning education with a dietitian. 

Despite my previous attitude of "why go to a gym when you can go outside", during that summer I started falling in love with 'formal fitness'. The beautiful transformations I saw in these young girls, alongside the changes I saw in myself, inspired me to keep going with it. 

When I returned to Waterloo I signed up as a member at the GoodLife location closest to me, and ended up working at the front desk that fall. I got a trainer who helped me with my own goals, and my fate was sealed – January 2012 marked the official start of my career as a personal trainer and I’ve loved it ever since!

I’ve continued to see the positive impact that a mindful fitness routine can have on your mental and physical well-being, and I appreciate how what I do in the gym makes me feel strong, grounded, and confident in the other areas of my life outside of the gym, both in the city and on the trail. 

Whether it’s weight lifting, yoga, or guiding retreats up in Killarney, I’m happy to share my knowledge and experience with everyone! I have had the pleasure of working with many different people of every kind of ability, from age 8 to 89, and I can tell you that it’s ALWAYS the right time to start your journey towards a healthier, stronger body and mind.

I love to learn, and make sure I stay up-to-date with latest research and trends so my clients can get the best results - and have the most fun! 

Alongside my investment in certifications I include regular attendance at the Toronto Canadian Fitness Professionals Conference, as well as yearly practical workshops covering topics such as knee and back health, pre & post natal exercise, weight loss, anatomy, yoga practice & teaching, coaching & goal setting.

I've also been a guest on both Rogers TV and CTV with fitness tips.
