Here's the short version of how I went from thinking "why would anyone go to a gym when they could just go outside?" to becoming a personal trainer and studio owner! (Plus, where I'm going next.)
You can scroll down to see my home studio and see a list of my certifications and experience, and if you have any questions please feel free to contact me any time.
I originally went to college for outdoor adventure guiding, and worked in Killarney running canoeing, kayaking, and hiking trips until 2010. (I still run annual yoga + nature retreats there, it's my favourite place in the world!)
In 2011 I led trips at a summer camp that that ran a program to help young girls learn to love their bodies and live active, healthy lives. This inspired an appreciation of "formal" fitness, and after moving to Waterloo I surprised myself and joined a local gym.
During my time at the gym I got a job at the front desk, then a personal trainer who helped me appreciate what fitness could be. In 2012 I became a trainer myself, and it's been my jam ever since!
As I learned more about physical exercise over the years, my appreciation and amazement of the mind/body connection inspired me to go back to school so I could expand my work.
I've just completed my undergraduate degree, and will be starting my Masters of Social Work at Laurier in May! I'm not 100% sure what my future practice will look like yet, but I will be blending mental and physical wellness with going outside. Stay tuned!
I now run a small fitness studio out of my home in addition to training online, and I focus on what makes me feel the best:
blending body and mindset training!
I love to learn, and make sure I stay up-to-date with latest research and trends so my clients can get the best results - and have the most fun!
Alongside my investment in certifications I include regular attendance at the Toronto Canadian Fitness Professionals Conference, as well as yearly practical workshops covering topics such as knee and back health, pre & post natal exercise, weight loss, anatomy, yoga practice & teaching, coaching & goal setting.
I've also been a guest on both Rogers TV and CTV Kitchener with fitness tips, which was simultaneously terrifying and super fun!
